Back in the mid 80s I was the admin on a dial up legal research board hosted somewhere in the Library of Congress. It was only available 9-5 weekdays.

I remember the days of playing Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun online with dial-up. I was using AOL at the time. In the middle of the game I'd hear "Goodbye". I then realized why people referred to it as America OffLine. I proceeded to find another service, found a free one from Kmart called Bluelight, and was way better.

Thinking about it these days, you almost feel like you came right out of the stone age. I would certainly never go back. Being spoiled by broadband, I'd rather have no service than dial-up again. Still surprising dial-up still exists, though ofcourse there are very few providers these days.

Never had a Hayes modem, I think I started with a US Robotics when I transitioned from the VIC-20 & Commodore 64.
