2 cycle motor question ?

Post by renovation »

I have a 2 cycle 5 hp snow blower with a TECUMSEH engine. the problem its having is it starting to do a pop sound after it warms up .
the motor still seems to be running without any loss of power. thoughts as to what the problem maybe .the motors like 10 plus years old .
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help

Perhaps time for a tuneup like plug, new filter and carb kit? Due to age it just might need a good carb bowl flush. That runs about $65.00 in my neck of the woods labor included.

What kind of pop? I've got some experience with 2 strokes.. It's not a backfire, right?

Have you already changed the spark plug like DaMaN suggested? There's really not a whole lot that goes wrong with these engines.. Their pretty solid. If it's not the plug, make sure the choke isn't sticking. Even when I completely fried a piston in my 2 stroke dirt bikes I never had a backfire, but a fouled or wet plug could cause those types of issues due to improper firing. Also, if you haven't had it serviced in the 10 years you've had it, it's possible the needle valve in the carb bowl is worn and allowing more gas to flow into the carb than it needs causing combustion in the carb.

Good Luck!
