Glad I haven't bought one yet. This seems like the thing to get.

unlike the previous versions, they are offering different models...white, silver, and black.

for all the best goodies, you have to get the black edition and spend $400. pretty steep, but at least it exists now. :)

Resurrecting this thread. Been looking at these. Reviews on Amazon say that the newest version 3+ has awful distance focus compared to the 3. Anyone have one or played with one?

I would think that one could find a hobby type micro cam project that would be alot better, and less costly, no?

i haven't used a 3 yet, but have considered picking up another v2 since they are much cheaper now. mine lives on my car windshield for driving videos. rock solid.

BillyBoat...the motion stabilization is the key to these. there are many cheaper alternatives, but all of the videos i've seen suffer from massive shake or image quality compared to the GoPro. i haven't looked in the past few months though, so maybe something else is out now.

Got ya, I have a dashcam that puts out decent quality, and also has a gps logger, and video is awesome at 100 plus miles an hour, but I dont know how stable it would be attached to a snowboard or something of the like.
What do people use these for other then extreme sports? Like b-,am, what would you use it for, I only ask because they are rather pricey compared to alternatives

I think that for most, it'd end up in your closet collecting dust like most movie cameras end up. People buy movie cameras for kids and pets but when they grow up, the camera sits.

The video camera in my phone works well enough for me these days.

mine just became full-time dashcam, but i may use it on vacations and such at the beach (underwater), etc. haven't done it yet though. i also use it for time lapse stuff. other than that, you're right, extreme sports gets the most attention for them.

Reno- make sure to get a high quality microSD for it, otherwise you'll be unhappy. the GP3 and 3+ Black are especially picky, since they can do the higher resolutions and FPS. slower microSD will choke and result in either lockups or corrupted files.

stick with these:

...and learn from my experience with the fakes out there. only buy from a reputable seller such as Amazon (sold and fulfilled by Amazon).

what he bought is a Samsung 64gb xc1 card . seeing I get to play with it (hero 3+ ) for a bit .his reason is he a car buff .and wants it to capture pictures like from the Woodward dream cruise. I don't ask when it comes to him .he the same guy who offer me up a 1954 Chevy pickup. if I wanted it to restore .
he wants me to be there using it and I'm guessing his other digital camera./ camera's . I'm just now recharging both the remote and camera on my computer. the batterys were fully discharged or never charged . I half expect if I say it be nice to have this mount or attachment . he run and order that camera part it's the way he is. you should see him when we go to car show's or auctions. I seen him drop 6 figures in 20 mins on a car. and me I don't have a pot to piss in at the moment .

extra batteries and/or an external power source for extended recording is a must too. :)

the wifi remote is ok, but also check out the android/apple app for it (free). i don't use it much, but it's pretty handy for changing settings via the app rather than messing with the tiny display and two buttons on the device.

good luck!
