Corsair Vengeance K70 Cherry MX Red Keyboard

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Little teaser. I just bought this keyboard from Newegg and it came in today. First impressions: I'm loving it. I'm SO over wimpy membrane keyboards.

I will post a more detailed review when I have some time after I've done some serious gaming with it.

I purchased the silver aluminum keyboard with blue backlighting (there is also a black aluminum version with red back lighting).

This is a very robust & solid keyboard with an aluminum body. All the keys are Cherry MX Red except the multimedia keys. The keys feel fantastic when typing.

The back lighting is not a must-have, but it's nice. I do game in a dark room and ujsually use a laptop USB LED lamp to light up the keyboard. The back light has three levels of brightness and the dimmest level is all I need.

Yes it cost $100 but it's worth it.

Very nice. I may check those out if my Logitech G110 ever gives out.

3 weeks later and I'm loving this keyboard. Can't imagine going back to a membrane keyboard.

Still loving the keyboard. The only issue is that when you shut off the PC, the keyboard forgets the setting of the Windows Key disable switch and always defaults to enabling it.

Fixed this by plugging the keyboard into a powered USB hub so even if the PC is turned off, the keyboard maintains power and remembers the setting.

My wife needed a new keyboard (she wore at the MS mechanical one I bought and never liked) so we ordered one of these on your recommendation.

First thing she did was put on the WSDA textured keycaps :) she says the action is excellent. I think the shiny red background is cool. Looks Like a winner!

Yeah I have two of them now (silver case with blue back light). The one on my gaming rig I put the textured WASD key on and it sure comes in handy for games that use those keys.

When I use a regular membrane keyboard now, on a client's PC, it just feels like crap by comparison.

I had to laugh when my wife put on the WASD caps....before she met me she had considered computer gaming (beyond cell phone tetris stuff) and gamers weird. I got her playing GW2 and she really enjoyed it for about a year, now's she's raring to go with ESO.

Well mechanical switch keyboards may become more affordable. The patent on Cherry MX switches just expired.

Razer is the first company to announce it's own line of mechanical switches to compete with them:

I've been wondering why there weren't Chinese knockoffs surrounding me. I guess I'll wait and see what companies actually release ones that are reliable. Really though, I just want a keyboard that is in the natural style with back-lighting on the keys.

Followup:

My first keyboard just had one of the LED backlights on one of the keys fail. Keyboard is within 2 year warranty period so I'm getting an Express RMA.

Curiously, they no longer make my specific model (silver aluminum case with blue LEDs) so they are sending me the version with a black aluminum case and red REDs. I suspect they were having reliability issues with the blue LEDs. Doesn't matter to me.

Still loving the keyboards (I have two of them). I will NEVER go back to a membrane keyboard.

Played a little L4D2 & COD-AW with it today. I have to say I am impressed with the quality.
