Thought I was losing my touch

Post by wvjohn »

Been having problems with the internet at home. Had it wired from the router to a switch, etc., but it was getting flaky. did the usual trouble shooting, decided the cable from the living room to the office (via the basement) was bad replaced that. Ok for a couple of days then flaky again - so decided to replace the switch (which was a 10 year old cheapy). Got the new switch, put it in and ....nothing.... We had a critter that got into the house we had been trying to catch for about a week ...likely a big rat, but never thought about that. Last night it got nailed hard enough by a rat trap for some serious bleeding but escaped. We played "where's the wounded rat" for most of the morning pulling out the fridge, etc. When we went through our office which adjoins the kitchen we discovered that the little SOB had chewed through the new piece of CAT5 as well as the phone line. Never did find him. Running wireless until this threat to the internet is eliminated.

No sign of it this am. Hopefully he's one and done and we'll find him before he stinks too bad. I was about ready to set up a bunch of webcams in the kitchen, with a 12 gauge appliance tied to a string, but my wife vetoed that reminding we'd just spent a lot of $$ for the new kitchen floor.

If we get invaded again I'm gonna see if I can get the gubment to lend me a mini-drone with a laser....

Had a mouse that ate some of my CAT5 in crawl space under the house a few years back.

What's the thoughts on using steel wool? I've heard that it irritates the gums of mice and rats and they stay away from it.

Lil sucker showed up again last night. I don't like using rat poison ('cause I'm sure it will end up dead in the wall) , but I'm off to the store in a while. Condition RatCon5 has been formally declared.

Exec - If I showed that pic to my wife I'd be on the couch for quite a while :)
