Nexus 7 (2013) second generation

Post by Nuby1Canuby »

I picked one up today and I'm really impressed. It's lightning fast, light and the display is excellent.

Retail is $229 for the 16GB model and $269 for the 32GB model.

Improvements over the first generation are:
display resolution increased from 1280x800 to 1920x1200
2 mm thinner and 50 grams lighter
Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core A5 processor is about 80 % faster then the Tegra 3
Adreno 320 GPU is supposed to be about 3 times faster then the ULP GeForce
2 Gigs RAM versus 1 Gig
5 megapixel rear camera with 1080P movie capability versus no rear camera
Stereo speakers versus mono

If you have MAC Filtering enabled on your router turn it off when you first setup your Nexus 7. You won't be able to get the MAC address of your Nexus 7 until after you connect to your router.

When you first power up the tablet it prompts for the language then the network to connect to. It won't let you do anything until it connects to a valid network.
I had the problem where I kept getting an authentication problem because the MAC filtering was turned on in the router. I had to click on forget the network or it would keep trying to connect to the previous invalid wi-fi connection that had MAC filtering enabled.
After entering my 60 character password about 5 times before I figured it out I was really fed up.

MAC filtering is next to useless anyway.

I'd like to buy a 4G one when they come out. I would love it before I go on vacation at the end of the month but I doubt it will be available by then.

I'd like to see you talking on your tablet phone.
