Well this is in my list of things to 'mod' on the car....pretty extensive but from what Ive read its a direct bolt in. Includes the JDM EMC and TRAC controller so no CEL/VSC lamps.
Never heard of it before but from google, apparently it's a twin turbo version of your car.
We had a guy who worked with us get the "upgrade fever" on his minty SC 300 and yada, yada......~$50K later (so far), it's probably about done but yeah, costly and we can't imagine where he got that kind of money. It's got the newer Supra 6 speed and rear diff too. Probably ~450HP?
yeah, the Aristo is the japan version of the GS300 but with the MKV supra motor in it. The intercooler that comes with it is pretty rinkydink but will suffice for now. Im looking at multiple vendors for these. Theres a place in Canada that has a perfect swap with all the cables and such. Im also working with a guy here in Austin that has already done it to his car and was very happy till all the seals started leaking. About $3k shipped for everything. Figure get it and put it on a stand, replace oil pump, Tbelt, waterP, cam seals, front and rear main, and v cover gaskets. Will be a lot easier to do on a stand. Just have to fig out how to get the crank bolt out on a stand, Ive heard its a nightmare. The $3k includes 4spd auto transmission, intercooler and piping, ECU, trac, complete harnes, and motor mounts. Im a little leary though, the turbos may also leak...
You don't need to replace the oil pump on those but the seals, gaskets are a good idea as it's far easier out of the car.
To remove that crank bolt, you'll need the tool and some help to hold it in place while someone else tries to loosen it with a long pipe over a long 1/2" extension. Won't be easy on a stand and you'll probably want at least one more person to hold the engine assy. Might be easier to loosen with the engine laying on the ground, prior to putting it on a stand.
Lexus doesn't use turbos on anything here but from my experience with Volvo, turbos are usually not troublesome. I've never had them leak or fail. The Garret turbo on my 940 came off an '88 car, has been in 3 cars now and has maybe ~300K miles on it? Still A-OK.
