got my hitachi 2 tb back from rma today, formatting now. its going to take a really long time, also its made in shenzen china :( . i dont think is cables, i clean them and replace if the catches are broken. its probly just the crap drives there selling these days. i looked up this drive, its a 3 platter one.

I suspect that the various HD manufacturers decided to shift manufacturing location during the rebuild. Hopefully, this improves quality instead of reducing.

Well, it wasn't really smart to put everything all in one place to begin with really. Chinese made products have varying degree of quality. Most cases the quality is just as good if not better than from other countries.
When all else fails, replace the user.

Well, it's official. This is the newest drive in my box not counting boot drives & it's the first to kick the bucket. Odd, because if they make it past a few months, they usually go for at least 3. Well, I just used it as an excuse to grab one of the new 6TB drives. Which I have all the way to 97% capacity already. Gonna have to add another to bolster it up.

Actually, Singapore was where a lot of HDDs were made. Don't know if they're still cranking out drives like they used to but Singapore's tech industry has boomed over the years.

Thailand had the whole major flooding deal. I think they still in the process of rebuilding those factories for the most part.
When all else fails, replace the user.
