So has anyone used this for book reading? I'm in the market currently and that would probably be the primary use of whatever I get.

Yes, I have the Kindle reader installed. I also have ES File Explorer installed for reading ebooks in text file format.

I don't use the Google books app.

Do you prefer it to an e-ink Kindle?

I have both and find them both easy to read from. Its just so useful having a tablet that can do more than just read books.
