Looking for some simple website design software

Post by wvjohn »

I am putting up a website for a festival and I am looking for some simple software to put the site together. It will only be about 5 pages total, with some pics and links. I purchased a decent cheap package years ago for another project but who knows what happened to it :) I haven't done any HTML coding for years and really don't want anything complicated.

I got the domain and hosted it on Hostica.

TIA

Hostica should have a simple web builder in their control panel that should do the job.

Yah, if that doesn't work, you can build them in MS word.. You just have to tweak the code a little for the pictures..

Hostica's web builder is called SiteStudio. There's a link to a demo on the lower right on this page:

I got a simple version up using the one on Hostica. It seems pretty limited, esp. working with text, but I really didn't look that deep. Ok for now, but may try something else as I flest the site out.

Thanks

The free Hostica website builder was pretty much a bust

Post by wvjohn »

for me. Got the basic stuff up, but then tried to flesh it out and went through about a week where it wouldn't update and they never answered any help tickets I sent in. I finally gave up on that and moved the info I needed to share to my blog and redirected the URL. I really do want something better though.

I found a free wordpress template that looked like it might work, which according to Hostica could be uploaded, etc., but that sounds like voodoo to me and I really just want to put up a simple 4-5 pages site with photos, info, etc for this event. The event is in 7 weeks, and I've got a fair amount of $$ committed, so the info needs to stay up 24/7, so I'm going to leave well enough alone unless I'm sure it will be better.

I don't mind spending a few bucks - like up to $100 - for software that is easy to use where I can just upload the whole thing....I should have dealt with this a couple of months ago but have been busy.

This is basically the type of website I am shooting for... http://www.sacredspacefoundation.org/

any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Maybe I'll just check out using wordpress like that site does.

Thanks!

Might be best to just pay for hosting on SquareSpace.com for the few months you need it. They have very easy to use templates, and they can import from Wordpress. They're pretty much the premier DIY web host. Never used them myself, but I've heard a lot of good things.

You get a free trial for 14 days without having to give them a credit card, so might as well try it out.
