The Lorax in 3D
The Lorax in 3D
Today I took my 8-year-old daughter to see The Lorax. I've been anticipating this movie ever since I saw the trailer for it and saw that it was being done by the same folks that made Despicable Me. After watching the trailers and the short promo for a Despicable Me sequel, my anticipation turned to utter boredom. I can't remember reading Dr Seuss' original book or watching the cartoon adaptation, but I gather that the movie only took the basic concepts and then turned them into another generic Corporations vs. Environment movie. The movie seemed very preachy. I'm not one who thinks that humans have no impact on the Earth but I'd like to watch a movie without it being shoved down my throat for 90 minutes with lousy voice acting and out of place musical numbers. WALL-E had a similar message concerning excess consumerism and I thought it was great. The 3D was well done but a bit under utilized. The colors were brilliant and true to Dr. Seuss' illustrations. The music was terrible and could've been left out entirely. My daughter did enjoy the movie and I'm glad she did. I felt like pulling out by phone and firing up my Kindle app.

The original one was about a guy that came in and found out that he could use the "fur" from the trees to make an all-in-one sweater type of thing, he started making a lot of money, supply couldn't meet demand so in came more of his family and it grew until one day all of the trees were gone.. So, if the movie was like that, it's not far off from the original.. I only know this because it came on TV the other day and I watched it with my daughter.. lol

The plot is the same. However, take the original 25 min cartoon and then add forced musical numbers, a corporation that sells air, subpar voice acting, add a couple of chase scenes and stretch the length to an hour and a half. I'm beginning to believe the length is the problem with adapting children's books to film. I bet the movies would be better if instead stretching them out, keep them to 30min and maybe do a triple feature to get the length.eGoCeNTRoNiX wrote:The original one was about a guy that came in and found out that he could use the "fur" from the trees to make an all-in-one sweater type of thing, he started making a lot of money, supply couldn't meet demand so in came more of his family and it grew until one day all of the trees were gone..
