nice update to the backblaze backup service

Post by b-man1 »

got this from them today:
Our unlimited online backup is now more unlimited...
Backblaze 2.0 can now backup unlimited file sizes and unlimited file types. You can now backup files over 9 GB as well as VMWare, Parallels, ISO, and any other file type you choose.

...and faster.
We added Automatic Throttle to most efficiently use the bandwidth you have, provided a real-time speed test, added small file batching to speed their backup by about 25 times, reduced RAM usage, sped up external drive detection, and much more.
they previously limited file sizes at 9GB and excluded most image formats and virtual drive formats...apparently not any longer. i don't have a need for uploading such large files, but still pretty nice for someone i imagine.

I skipped them because of the limitations. I am currently using "Crashplan" as my offsite backup solution. 5$/mo and truly unlimited. Its a shame because backblaze was my first choice.

i do the $50/year plan. they have added a slightly cheaper option if you prepay for two years...$95 ($3.96/month). otherwise it's $5/month if you don't prepay.
