How much for a Fog Lamp Bulb?!!
How much for a Fog Lamp Bulb?!!
My 2010 Charger's right Fog Lamp burned out yesterday. I thought the biggest hassle I was going to have was getting to the bulb itself to replace it. It's buried under the bumper and you have to remove clips from the inner fenders to get to them. I stopped by Advance Auto Parts, got the number from my manual, and went it. It was an unusual number, PSX24W and they didn't have it. I didn't think this was a big deal seeing that the car is a 2010. I went home and fired up Google and found that this bulb is a dealer only item. Furthermore, this bulb is only made by Phillips specifically for Chrysler beginning model year 2010. On Mopars "E-Store," I found the bulb and my jaw hit the floor when I saw the price of $46 for ONE BULB. This isn't the housing, lens, or harness, it's just the bulb itself. You also have to order two. I'm trying to find options. Any forum I find turns into a discussion of aftermarket kits. I may have to go that route because for the price of two bulbs, I can almost buy an HID kit. Prior to 2010, Chrysler used a 9145 which are cheap and easily obtained. This new bulb only runs 25 Watts so they can use thinner housings, lenses, and smaller harnesses. I also read that it supposed to be "greener." I can't figure this one out.

Looks like if you're willing to use e-bay, you can find them for just under $20 with shipping

You're right, that is insane. Looks like they started using that in pretty much every 2010 model of Dodge and Chryslers.
Of course, like you said, for that huge price you could almost get yourself a nice HID kit. Or even just swap the lamps out entirely. Something brighter and with cheaper bulbs in the long run.
