and chances are that this car will be on the road... broken down or in a crash that snarls traffic for hours or kills somebody. This is why we need DOT inspections. To get cars like this off the road.

However much of a pain getting my car inspected every year is, I always feel better having a pro give it a once over to make sure that I'm not missing something. Heck, for the price, it's easier to let them do it anyhow. I have a friend who pays the inspectors off & their vehicle is very unfit for the road IMO.

Sadly we no longer have inspections in Florida, and I've seen plenty of vehicles that look like this on the road.
The benefits of Florida weather is a car held together with bubblegum and bailing wire can keep running for a LONG time here...

i have had work trucks that look like CRAP - but they are sound mechanically.
One Ford Areostar got laugh at when it was drove down the road .it had a custom made ladder rack on it. the rack came off a full size dodge tradesman van . we cut up a steel rack system like they use in lowes or home depot . attached by bolts and welding the frame inside the truck for extra support .then bolted two more custom welded support brackets made from the same racks . to the roof .so the dodge ladder rack could be attached.
it all worked but I could also see day light inside the areostar van from the factory roof panels cracking at the factory seams .that was were slicone caulk was used to try and keep the rain out
was able to get two years out of this truck and a guy bought it off me for $400 more then what i payed for it used in the first place
