I was surprised to find that Win7 has no built-in functionality to share internet over Wifi. I'm sitting here in my RV at a park where we're waiting to watch a fireworks show. I have Internet via USB tethering on my Android phone, but the wife brought her iPad (Wifi only) and wanted to browse the internet.
In WinXP I could easily share the tethered network device via wifi, but Win7 doesn't seem to have any way to do it natively. And no I don't have a rooted phone so I can't setup my HTC Evo as a Wifi hotspot without paying Sprint an extra $30 a month.
Did a little Googling and found some rave reviews of this (currently free) Windows app called Connectify. It runs as a background app and installs a network driver. Very simple wizard gets you setup in minutes. By default it configures your laptop to act as a Wifi router with WPA encryption. Works perfectly.
This will also be handy for occasions when I'm in a hotel room with only a hardwire Internet connection.
