Pontiac G8 to Return - As a Chevy

Post by renovation »

Three GM sources have confirmed to Motor Trend the Australian-built sedan will re-appear on the U.S. market as a Chevy in the coming year. And it won't be called Impala. "We have a good name for it," smiled one of the sources.

Cost is a problem. With the Australian dollar now on par with the greenback, shipping cars from Australia is now an expensive proposition. In addition, some minor re-certification work will also likely need to be performed to get the car back to U.S. spec. Because of this, and CAFE requirements, the Chevy sedan will only be available as a V-8, and in relatively limited numbers. Holden has also developed a U.S. market version of its mechanically identical Caprice long wheelbase sedan for police applications, but GM continues to insist that it will be for law enforcement duty only.

I honestly never liked the looks of it. But I'm hopeful for other possible comebacks *Firebird*.

Err....they are going to use a chevy name, not a pontiac....Im praying...and praying...and praying they dont $%&*ing call it a CHEVELLE!!!!! Would be a disgrace to the all american muscle car. Now Mopar did do a good job with the challenger but GM is known for twisting plastic cars out an using all american steel names for them.....

The problem with the G8 and new GTO was that they looked just like every other newer GM car. Chevy already has the Camaro back, a V8 Impalla and the Corvette so why make another V8 powered Chevy that looks like any other Chevy (assuming that's what they'll do again)? Maybe that type of car sells in Australia but it hasn't helped GM here.

Why don't they just bring the Ute over here? I would get one even if its gas. If they offered it in a small diesel then I would preorder it.

i think the G8 will transform into a El Camino pickup . GM drop so much money into bring one to pontiacs line up before they pulled the life line on Pontiac.
there is a demand for this type car again. the G8 maybe the first to arrive but im sure a small pick up will follow in Chevys line up .

I doubt it'll be an El Camino as those were never very popular. Not too many people want a vehicle with only enough interior for 2 people that's not a car, nor a truck. Suburu tryed bring back their version a few years ago, didn't sell.

I'm betting on Chevelle, they dragged out the Monte Carlo name too long before it went away a few years ago.

I must be one of the few that thing the ElCamino/Ranchero were a great Cruck. They did everything you needed 98% of the time. And they weren't hogs on gas like a full sized pickup, But did almost everything that you could do with a full sized pickup. Hell if VW offered their version of the ElCamino, which is smaller (and available in a Diesel) I would pay 20-30k for one.
