Muh New Rig...

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered all new parts for a PC today. I have been running on my Q6600/4GB/8800GT for almost 3 years now. Well, the 8800GT is only about 3 years old. But, I have had the same install of XP for far longer than that. I'd actually like to see how long I've had this one going, any way to tell? Anywho, on to the new hotness!

Case : Athena Power Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case by Antec

Motherboard : ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX

RAM : G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL

HD : Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH080G2K5 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for boot and WoW. And I will throw in a couple of 250GB SATA drives for storage that I have laying around.

Optical Drive : LG Blu-Ray from current rig.

Video Card : 2xHIS H577FK1GD Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card ...

This will be my first attempt at SLI/CrossFire, so that should prove to be interesting. :)

Once everything arrives, I'll toss up some pictures of everything once I get it put together. This is, by far, the most I've ever spent on building my own PC. But, it's also the first time I've really done a completely new build in almost 8 years. So I figure it's my turn. :)

Sounds nice. About the only thing keeping me from doing the same is having to redo/updade the OS (still running XP) and figuring out what video card to get with out getting ripped off.

nice rig...let us know how you like the Asus board once you're up and running. i'm on the Asus m4a89gtd pro/usb3 now and it has been a good solid board.

The ASUS AM3 board I bought for my father-in-law is holding up well. I think I mentioned this in another thread but for the on-board sound on the ASUS boards, Win 7 doesn't detect and install the sound drivers automatically. However, it will detect and install the HD audio for the video cards. I didn't notice this until I hooked up a speaker and notice that there was no sound coming out although the volume control wasn't grayed out and showed levels. Once I installed the drives from ASUS, all was good.

That's going to be a nice rig.

Thanks for the pointers. Depending on how I go, I may not even use the onboard audio.. If I go HDMI out I won't need it. But good to know! Hoping it all shows up tomorrow.. :) It shipped today from NJ so it should be an overnight run. :) Otherwise Monday..

Ego......sweet rig !! I have a woody for your CPU and HDD. Go into your BIOS and set your RAM to 1.6v, PC1600, and 8-8-8-24,2N . It'll do that standing on it's head. I have the same stuff. That get's me a 7.4 in the Winderz Experience Index or whatever they call it.

Are you running win7 or XP?

I'll be running Win7 on this rig. The only thing I don't like about Win7 Ultimate is that it just doesn't network like XP did.. If it networked like XP did, I'd be happier than a pig in slop with it. Once I get things stable I'll start OCing it and see if I can break the 4ghz barrier :)

No... its a quad core... so if one core is running 4ghz then all four are and that is 16ghz. And I have been listening to too much Deadmau5. Now I think 4x4=12.

Well, got everything setup and it's running well. But I am not seeing the performance increase I thought I would in WoW.. Not sure if there is some tweaking that needs to be done or what. I'm getting the same frame rates at the same settings as I was before and now I'm running CrossFire with 5770s w/1GB over my previous 512MB 8800GT... Something's not right.. Any tips?

I seem to remember the default is 60 and you have to change that setting - my framerate in WOW is limited by my shi$$ DSL connection....
