Hi ya'll.
I'm having something slowing me down but not sure what.
My other Acer Aspire Laptop would always get around 180K or so downloads when I get to WIFI spots and also even that old IBM 96MB ram laptop got far better than 80K
I now have a Accer Aspire 5532 and can only seem to get around 80K downloads.
I should have B G and N access built in.
I just bought a Belkin USB wireless N adapter this morning, disabled the built in networking hardware, and the Belkin USB gets the exact same speeds the built in got.
This is a WIN 7 64 bit OS.
Any suggestions? I hope to try another WIFI spot later today, but this spot had always gave me around 180K on the other laptops using the older OS like Win 98 and XP.
I don't seem to be doing well at home on Wireless either for speed, so I think this system is the problem.
I'm a a Mc Donalds and using that Wayport wifi like I used to use all the time. I bought a ton of 3D content from Daz 3D during sales in the last 3 months and have probably Gig or more to download!
Sorry I been gone so long again, I bought a bike and been riding most the year and not messing with computers much or online much like I used to be.
80K wifi should be 180K?

Hard to say. Yeah you need to try another hotspot. Hotspots can be pretty unreliable. Depends on how many other people are using it and what they are doing. Could have been another downloader on there.
I'd say it's probably not an issue with the laptop if both the internal and a USB wifi NIC are getting the same.
Keep in mind that some corporate run hotspots (like Mickey D) are starting to throttle bandwidth to keep someone from hogging it all. I'm pretty darn sure Panera and Starbucks is doing that around here.
I'd go to a small mom & pop type place and try it.

Library should be open, now, I think I will go there in a few minutes and try.
I hope Mc Donalds and such are not throttling back users around here, it's the only way I can download much of the stuff I buy.
I spend all day when I get to WIFI and normally most the day I am only one using the WIFI. A few people pop in and out here and there but I keep the same slow downloads speed all day.
I don't really have much around this area for WIFI that I know of, Mc Donalds and the Library is about it I think.

Yep, I guess MC Donalds messed up the WIFI
I'm at the Library and getting all kinds of speeds, over 200K sometimes though it varies allot and hits some pretty slow speeds for a few minutes sometimes also.
Not sure how many PCs in use here right now but a few.

Libraries generally have a big pipe, provided by the city. Mickey D probably just has DSL and if there's someone else mooching it, or if they are just having line problems, no one's the wiser.
The Panera Bread over here had totally screwed up Wifi for a month and the manager was oblivious until people started to complain that they wouldn't come back until it was fixed.

I been laid up a bit and not getting online, was just hurting too much for awhile to sit at a computer. Nothing serious just twists and pulled muscles but it kept me almost bed ridden for weeks.
Well, the Libarary went nuts on speeds that day. It got to the point I was getting like 20k and less a times downloading before I left. I know the libarary Wifi could not have been that bad!
I just did a Mc D's today for a short time. Only getting about 60K at that one.
I called the tech support and they said the service should be about 1/2 MB bandwith. He did do some tests from his end and found some type of problem he put in a fix ticket for.
1/2MB bandwith, on wireless G, only one on it, what speeds should I be downloading if all is well?

If you have full bandwidth (which you probably don't if someone else is using the hotspot) and a strong signal I think 75 Mbit/sec is reasonable. No one gets the advertised 108Mbit/sec out of wireless G.

Yes I often have all the bandwith to myself at Wifi, not that busy around here.
75 Mbit/sec, how many K is that on download speeds. I forgot how to figure that.
I think I am losing it at times.
I know I used to get into the 180K download range at same places early last year. 60K and 80K now are too slow compared to what I used to get.
The kid has my other Acer laptop I used to use, gave it to her for collage and bought this one for me.
Not sure if G was the limit on that one or if it had N, this one supposed to have Draft N as well as backwards to G and B.
Kid moved to MS. so I can't borrow back that laptop to see if it is any faster still now.
I think the Wifi is only using a G router but not sure, it might have been an N.
