I'm in Kingsbury Nevada

Post by Executioner »

Left from Hemet, CA this morning at 6am, arrived at 4pm. Got within 2 miles of our resort, and had to install chain - first time ever - what a hassle. They work but I have a pickup and it was a challenge keeping the truck going straight, and keeping the back wheels from spinning. First time driving in the snow and it sucks. Hopefully this is my first and last time LOL. I don't know how you guys that live in the snow handle this stuff.

I'm here til Thursday and driving back. The weather is suppose to clear up and become sunny. I'm hoping that is true so I can drive without the chains. I'll see if I can post some pics in the next couple of days.

Ex, I think you'd better keep the chains on. What made you want to go there now anyway?
If you want to test your snow driving skills w/o chains, come here in about a month or so. Some here like me put 4 snow tires on their cars. I have 2 sets mounted on wheels for our 2 cars that we use regularly. With good snow tires, you can drive anything safely even in Blizzards but no, not through areas like where you're at now. The Mustang stays in the garage all winter. Many here don't use snow tires and even drive with balding tires in winter. Those are people who apparently don't mind spinning out ending up in ditches and/or causing major accidents. We see that every winter, starting with the first snow fall.

What made me go? We normally every year go to Vegas, but we decided to go here because we got a good deal on rooms, and we wanted to check out the area around Reno. The weather was suppose to be without snow. Just happens that a storm decided to drop snow which is okay since our state is short on water.

+gazillion.

i can't count the number of times i've tried to (politely) convince people to use snow tires here. the response is one of two things:

most women say: "...but i have ALL SEASON TIRES...they work"
most men say: "...a good driver knows how to drive in the weather"

um, ok. too bad the laws of physics have something else to say if you need to stop quickly or get going on a hill. sigh. i have them now purely for defense and they've saved me more than once.

Just got 9 1/2 inches of snow here last night.

Now in Taylorsville, Utah. Suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah.

She's HOT!

Anybody got any recommendations for some good fair priced snow/winter tires? We don't get a ton of snow here, but we do get it. I'd like to get some for my winter wheels, but don't want to spend a fortune either.

TIA!

I use Bridgestone Blizzaks from Tirerack. You can buy them with or w/o wheels. Blizzaks are about the best snow tire you can buy but they're only for cold, winter use or they won't last long. There are people here who don't get around to removing them until August and daily driving on dry hot roads will destroy them quickly. I wait until I hear that we're about to get alot of snow then just throw them in the back and take them to work. Could do it in the driveway too but I'm spoiled by using hoists.
If you're going to use snow tires, it's best to have them installed on another set of wheels because otherwise you'll pay for tire installation twice per year and that's also very hard on both the tires and aluminum alloy wheels.

Yes, I want to mount them on my stockers. I have 20s on my car now. My stocks are 17" alloys. I plan on putting them on sometime in early december, then I'll take them off in April or so. I don't drive a lot, so hopefully I can make them last a while.

Thanks for the input!
