Dell Dimension SX270 ultra-mini. Brought into the shop today, complained about it not displaying anything on the monitor when she plugged it in. Told her we'd do a free estimate to figure out what was wrong with it, give me a couple of days. Well, we're slow so I went ahead and plugged it in right away to mess with it. First impressions are okay, computer POSTs and starts booting into windows, then goes into a loop. I also smell something not-so-pleasant coming out of it, something along the lines of bad mexican food and a bit of burned stuff, but not electronics burn, so I continued. Ran the Dell diagnostics on it and it came up with a bad drive. I go to pop open the hard drive cover, and find the hard drive free-floating in the PC, but at least they made an attempt to keep it from freely touching the motherboard and shorting it out...
Yeah, those are some torn up styrofoam plates. And some of them are melted to the motherboard. Hard drive bad? I wonder why.
Sometimes I wonder why I'm in this business.
