UT3 is a solid shooter that can be very fun. However, it really isn't that popular at all for a UT game. I realize there's the crowd that disapproved of it and went back to UT2K4 but that still doesn't explain the deserted town UT3 has become. Even with all the free weekends, the game is still having trouble sparking a large dedicated community.
Could this be due to PC gaming being on the verge of death? It seems true PC shooters are dying out while ported console shooters are taking over the PC platform with things like aim-assist and other features that (in my opinion) slump a game from its true potential.
I am not trying to say console gaming is terrible. It's definitely a good option for mainstream gamers who aren't really looking to spend a lot of money on a powerful gaming rig that won't even last as long as a console's life cycle. However, to me console gaming is nothing but casual fun in the aspect of online gaming. From my observations, dedicated close communities just don't seem to establish themselves too well on the consoles. Only console game I can think of that had a great online community would be SOCOM 2 but that was an old game on the PS2 back when things like aim-assist and matchmaking weren't around which in my opinion are some of the reasons console gaming is degrading both community-wise and in the competitive sense.
Why did Unreal Tournament 3 fail? Is PC gaming really dying?

I admit that I never had a chance to play it (was playing the Orange Box like nobody's business), but competition was fierce (Crysis & Quake Wars) when it came out & it receive good, but not raving reviews, so not many people's eyebrows got raised. Then games like Battlefield, Call of Duty, & Team Fortress most importantly came out & it just got lost.
I do agree though that if servers don't keep people from using aim-bots that it'll stop pretty much anyone from using it. As soon as I realize there's an aim-bot working in a map, I drop it. I don't even get why people use them. Where is the sense of accomplishment? Guess maybe they were pretty bad & this is the only way they can compete.

Wow, until I googled it I didn't even know that there was an UT3 edition:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_3
Why didn't it become a big hit? How many versions of UT does anyone need really? It's now an old game, the last versions I had were UT game of the year edition, UT 2003, UT 2004 (not much different than the 2003 version) SO at some point, people just move on.
