It finaly broke

Post by Pugsley »

After 20+ years this model M clone keyboard died. It still works... but the down and right arrow do not. I kinda need them for games. Now I have to go get a new keyboard. I don't really want one with the extra windows keys on it. Considering when gaming i use alt as jump and shift to duck. I don't want to be hitting the windows key and having it shift focus to the start menu.

Can anyone recommend a decent well built keyboard? I might have a Real model M somewhere, but I think the noise would bother me after awhile. Thanks.

BTW... This keyboard is AT, newer ones are ps2 right? :)

LOL, I use the fancy schmancy Microsoft Natural 4000 model. Can't stand clickity ones. I do like ones that have good key travel though.

I like the Dell multimedia keyboards, but they're no longer made so I bought 16 used ones from Ebay and 70% of them are in excellent condition, so I'm set for a few years.

As for the Windows key, I just remove it. Easy fix.

I'm using an 8-year old gateway keyboard. I've thought about getting a new one but I can't see spending $$$ on one. I also have a very old Packard Bell and an off brand USB (micro) that both work very well.

I'm sure you can find an old keyboard on e-bay you like as FP did.

There are several model-m: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1311&_nkw=ibm+model+m+keyboard&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Hey FP: here's another lot of 10 dell multimedia keyboards: http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-10-DELL-MULTIMEDIA-USB-KEYBOARD-SK-8135-/350359795647?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51931237bf

This is what I currently use: http://cgi.ebay.com/GATEWAY-KEYBOARD-NEW-SK-9920-/180513818885?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item2a07764905

Yup those are the ones and that's the same seller I bought them from. Guy was prompt.

I'm good. I have at least 10 keyboards in excellent condition. Since I go through around one a year that should hold me a while.

Just saw this for those who love the mechanical keyboards (also note the lack of a certain key):

Found an all most exact copy of what I had:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6823131128

It has a windows key but I think i can live with it considering its the exact keyboard layout. And its a plus that it is black! and usb and not AT.

Just pry the Windows key off.

Ok this new keyboard is great. Its ever so slightly different from my old one. Turns out the windows key is right where my alt key was. I have disabled the windows key, but is there a way to remap it to be just another right alt key?
