USB problems
USB problems
Most of the time I can't get my camera or 1TB USB drive to be recognized when I plug them in. Doesnt matter what port I plug them into either. Error message is a code 43. They work with my laptop so I know it's not the devices. What I find strange is my mouse and keyboard never have a problem. Both are USB.
Mobo is a Asus M3A78

I have had a lot of bad luck with onboard USB jacks. My present new system with an Asus mobo is one example. Simple devices like the keyboard and mouse work fine but if you connect something like an external HDD there's issues where it'll spontaneously disconnect or not get recognized.
I've had a few clients over the years that have also had issues.
Basically the problem is cheap/crappy USB chipsets. A BIOS upgrade may fix the problem, but I honestly think that it's just cheap hardware. My fix is simple: I install a PCI USB card. I prefer the Belkin 4 port cards. Belkins use a rock solid chipset and I never have any problems with them.
On my main workstation I have two Belkin 4 port cards and I don't use the onboard USB jacks at all except for the front ones which I only use for the iPod and flash drives which it doesn't seem to have an issue with.
