I'm in Hell, literally...

Soooooooo... I'm moving and long story short Dish Network disconnected all of my services two weeks early and won't turn them back on (Service was in my mother's name and she's deceased) without me signing a contract. So, I told them where they could stick it and I've been stuck on Dial-Up for three days now. I honestly had forgotten how bad Dial-up was. It's absolutely horrible! It took almost 3 minutes just to load this page so I could create this thread. The really sad part is that I have to deal with Dial-up until the 27th.. *cry* I will never make fun of people who are stuck on Dial-up again, I will just pity them...

PS. Dish Network is the crappiest company EVAR!

I feel for you. When I was on vacation last summer, I couldn't get a wireless signal anywhere. Had to use my cell phone to get a connection... through NetZero. I only used the internet for the bare minimum afterwards. It really is amazing how slow dial-up is. Of course, sites have been coded worse & compressed less since high speed has taken over.

Quick tip. While using dialup, use the "m." subdomain, for instance: http://m.yahoo.com and http://m.cnn.com

These are low-bandwidth sites without flash designed for mobile users. Not all domains support it but most of the major ones do due to the prevalence of mobile browsers now.

For regular pages use Firefox with the FlashBlock addon. 90% of the bloat on websites nowadays is Flash.

Flashblock helps a little.. But when you're only connecting at 24.kbps it's still a bitch to do anything. Most of the sites I visit are forums, so it's still a slow go. It took 3 minutes for this page to finish loading so I could post this lol.. But, I've only got to deal with it for 6 more days.. So I'll just have to make the best of it. After that it's broadband everywhere I go. I just wish that I could get a better cell phone signal out here, I'd just use my iPhone tethering...

Doh, not even getting 50kbps. That's real sad. I remember that I'd redial 10 times till I got at least 44kbps.
