Just resume where it left off. It's hit a bad sector. Could take an hour to get through it especially if there's more than 1 sector in a row. Let it level 2 the whole drive (don't be surprised if it takes a day or two) then chkdsk /f when it's done and with any luck you'll be able to read the files.

Yes, I took your lead and I got it in a NETGEAR RND2000 Diskless System Network Storage setup, I have a couple 1TB drives here at home plus newegg had a rebate offer on it so I took the plunge.

Once you get done with Spinrite hopefully your drive is working again to get your files.
If you still can't get to the files you want to save maybe try I-recover, it did a good job for me on a drive with tons of bad area's I could not read long time ago also. I forget what I did with that old drive or what exactly was wrong with it, but I saved a ton of files. That was also with a much older version of Irecover when I first bought it years ago.

If you have partion and other errors after Spinrite Diskpatch3 might be able to fix those still so you can get to your data.

They do say at DIY not to RUN Chkdsk on a drive until AFTER your done with I-recover or Dispatch. I think they say Chkdsk can further mess up the files etc.. if the drive is not working correct then even if their programs fix/restore the drive the files will be messed up from Chkdsk still.

Just an update, I installed 2 Hitatchi 1GB Drives in the Netgear ReadyNAS and love it. Easy as pie to setup and I now have weekly backups being saved to the NAS which is now redundant in RAID. Thanks for the tip FP.
