print server
is there a way to make a printer a server using a laptop with just a Air card (ATT phone service ) and lets say a linksys wps54g printer router without a wireless router /modem . the guy just has a printer with a usb and network jack on the epson printer .and the laptop with built in wireless g and his AT&T USBConnect Quicksilver .

You can't use the aircard to connect to the printer. He could use a router to get the printer on a wifi network, but he would have to disconnect from the aircard and connect to the wifi network to print which might not be all that inconvenient (I have not seen an aircard that will let you simultaneously connect to it and a wifi network).

i did make a couple of calls one to linksys and one to netgear. found he had to buy a special router. each company only made/sold one and they only worked on some models of Aircards .he decided to go with a netgear router though newegg as it was cheaper then factory direct . i used his rig to buy it online so dont know the model no.but will let you all know how this works out after it arrives .they also claim he should get 100 ft of airway coverage and he need that for the building he is using it in .

I bought one of the netgears for an experiment and so far I'm not pleased.. But I don't think it's the router's fault.. I think it's the USB adapter from AT&T It's a Sierra 885 or something like that.. Totally useless 99% of the time..

got the system working tonight -
new hp wireless 3 in one printer
new netgear router that has a aircard adapter
removal of his 2006 ver.of norton (why are people so taken by this junk )
his laptop running windows xp .
added the new Microsoft Security Essentials
was able to do some test printing as far away from the printer as 70-80 feet away in a cinderblock building that has 3 rooms with cinderblock and drywall walls and steel doors and no windows and lots of steel around the area . worked perfit getting internet and also sending signal to the printer .took about 1.5 -2 hours to configure the set up including dumping norton off the computer .hp software for the printer informed me to turn off norton or spend more greef reconfiging the crap. i zap norton for the reason of i like having hair on top of my head (and to save me lots of time ) if it was my personal setup i never would of gone though all this greef for what he wants this system to do. but he was paying me to do it so who am i to say .
