What the hell was the point of that, other than ruining perfectly good tires?
Plus I suspect there was more going on than a tire fire. I've seen tire fires. That looked like some sort of flammable liquid spilled on the ground. Maybe a gas line broke? The engine died at the same time it happened.

they usually put some kind of oil on the tires to help them smoke up...probably used the wrong kind.
