You can put Windows XP on it and it'll run even better. Info & drivers here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=356765

Oh, forget about upgrading the CPU.

You can't expect much for under $500.
Thanks FP I hadn't found that yet.

I found some-one said on a forum they upgraded one to a 5050E I think it was.
Seems to be a AM2 socket for what I could find so far. I'll read the links you posted too.
Forget upgrading the cpu though? Ok, I won't plan on doing that then.

For so little money it's kinda surprised me so far in being better than I thought it would be. I didn't really think it would do anything with D|S or Carrara but it did a little already.

I am trying to get content over to it now to work with a bit.
My other post up above about the sharing folders. It seems certain ones are not being shared maybe, I don't have access to programs files unless I do each folder and of course that is where all the content was installed, programfiles\Daz\Studio\content\runtime\ etc.. etc..

I found my G: and I: are almost fully shared, then I run into that not shared programfiles again :(

I'll have to work on the networking tomorrow some. The laptop sees the other computer but nothing will see the laptop yet.

Not sure what you mean. You trying to share folders on another PC to the new laptop to copy files? You should be able to share the whole Program Files folder on an XP system (Vista might give you trouble with that unless you disable UAC since it considers the Program Files folder a secure location).

If you shared it and still can't access it, and if it's XP Pro then right click on the Program Files folder, select properties, click the Security tab, and give "Everyone" full access to the folder.

Thanks again :)

I had a backup copy of the folder and subfolders I wanted over on F: and I had the same problem. I found a couple tick boxes in sharing now "Share this folder on the Network" and below that "Allow Network users to change my files" Checking the second one did the trick for the F: folder now.
I don't think I had that box maybe before either. I either turned on or turned off "Simple Network Sharing" while trying to get it to work.

I'll also look at the C:\programsfiles folder in a bit. I got that file transfer running now.
10.6GIG 143,954 files total. Windows says 4.5 hours to go still, but we know how windows counts. At first it said 4 days then went to 3 days then 5 days and finally came down to 5 hours LOL

I never seemed to have trouble in the old days with networking, 98 and 2K I could do. Added XP and could never get all 3 to see all 3 at same time, now I add VISTA to the mix :(

I'm going to turn off that UAC, I don't want to babysit the system waiting for windows to ask me the same question 4 times in 30 minutes. Instead of just copy and click over write all, it asked about this and that type files here and there. If had gone away and just let it run it would have ran 30 minutes at most then I guess just sat waiting for an answer! After I clicked the 3rd time I thought it was safe to do something else, here on this one, WRONG. So now I check every 10 mintues or so to make sure it's not asking a dumb question again though I think it should just run now. But then that's what I thought last time too.
