Ultra Mislabeled 750w x2 Power Supplies

Ultra Responds To Incorrect PSU Label Issue:
Earlier this week there were people reporting that some Ultra 750W X2 PSUs they had recently purchased were actually incorrectly labeled 550W PSUs. Representatives from Ultra have responded and have issued the following statement / remedy:

Dear Readers and Editors of HardOCP,

It has recently come to our attention that there are some Ultra X2 750W power supplies in the market which were incorrectly labeled (part numbers ULT40121 and ULT40122). We are currently investigating what gaps in our quality control allowed this issue to occur. Unfortunately, Wintech, our OEM manufacturer for these parts is no longer in business and, as such, we will not be able to hold them liable for any issues presents to our company and ultimately our customers. Regardless, Ultra is taking immediate action to mitigate this issue.

Ultra will offer a free replacement upgrade to our new X3 850W power supply (ULT40312) to anyone encountering this issue regardless of warranty status. If affected by this issue, please call 888-222-5487 or email support@help.ultraproducts.com and our support staff will assist you with your replacement.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause our customers.

Sure wish I had bought that. Would have been a nice upgrade. It's cool of Ultra to man up & take the hit though.

Now if only they and everyone else in the industry would stop inflating their wattage ratings, I'd be really impressed. They always use the max rating as the PSU wattage which is utter nonsense since you never run a PSU at max wattage for more than a minute unless you want to melt it into slag.

A "750" watt PSU generally means it's really a 600 watt PSU.

It's competition. Same thing happened to car audio & home audio amplifiers & speakers. Originally they listed everything at true power. Then one company had the balls to outright lie (cough*Pyramid*cough) & so the consumer thinks all the other companies are cheating them on price. So, the other companies all eventually eventually followed suit (sadly, even the well respected ones). I still find it funny that head units claim 4x60 watts when they only have a 10 amp fuse & 12 volts of power. That means at 100% efficiency that thy could only do 120 watts (not anywhere near 240). Nor does that leave amperage for any other part of the radio to function.

Sadly, I suspect the trend will get worse before it gets better. I don't think with China making stuff that they will ever be able to go back. China has that effect on stuff.
