New Toy - Slingbox Pro-HD
So I ordered this new toy from Amazon for $244
I received it today and it was simple to set up.
I only have it set up to my DirecTv Tivo and it controls it fine.
The bit rate over the network looks almost perfect.
I installed the software on my WiMo phone as well, and over the 3g it is not bad at all.
I put it on my laptop and connected through said 3g and it looked almost as good as when on my LAN.
It has a built in HD Tuner, I need to hook it up to an antenna to get the signal, I was holding the cable and was able to get somewhat of a signal and watched over the LAN and it was much clearer then the Tivo stream.
1st impressions are high.
This thing will come in handy when I am on the road!

So......mine arrived today and it was suppose to be NEW but NO
, it's used (no packaging, wire tires, etc) and it's missing an essential part, the remote IR cable. I e-mailed the seller via Amazon so we'll see if he's got it but I'm doubting that and I'll probably need to return it and wait for a refund.

The seller finally replied to me after I filed a claim with Amazon, saying he was sorry and would get that cable sent to me ASAP.
So, I hooked it up yesterday and put the SW on our 3 laptops plus my desktop. The only thing I can't yet do w/o that cable is change stations remotely but I must say that this device is very cool. Just click the Slingbox icon and you're watching TV from any PC in seconds. The picture quality and controls are very good too.
I have yet to try it from a remote location so I'll have to take a laptop to work one of these days and try it from the parking lot (as laptops are no longer allowed inside), just to test it.
I'm getting an I-touch too (2nd gen). Anyone here know if that'll work with it? Guess I'll soon find out.

I took my newest laptop to work today just to test its remote capabilities.......flawless! Worked just as good there as it does at home.
I can see it being handy at an airport when waiting as if there is a TV there, it's either not what you care to watch or you can't hear it. Last summer I was stuck at an airport for 6 hours as 2 flights got canceled, delayed. I was pretty bored and had to buy about 4 costly mags, newspapers just to pass the time.
