comcast today odd signal story !

Networking and broadband talkabout. Need help with that new router or setting up a network?

i think i found the problem my self tonight .bad cables in the house .tomorrow they are do here (comcast). i lost all signal tonight for the net . i go downstairs and replaced one lead and presto its working . i did have to use to shorty's and 2 barrow connectors to but im alive.
tomorrow they are to replace my old toshiba modem .and im going to also get them to recable my whole dam house . i know i may have to call a manager to get this approved but im tired of dicking with these guys at comcast .
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help

You want them to run a "home run" for the cable modem (the modem is on it's own wire by itself running straight to the splitter outside). They can then use a special splitter designed for modems that gives more signal to the modem.

If at all possible avoid having the modem and a TV on the same line with a splitter inside the house.

well they are saying its my equipment thats messed up and not theres .im getting my routers screwed up or my computers screwing up the works . well i just swap my rig out withs the wifes. now i have her machine as my main and only rig online. we see if i drop service .i also have the router out of the loop for now.

Yes, you have to be able to recreate the problem with one computer connected directly to the modem. I've certainly seen routers act up. It's a valid point, and to be fair they don't want to be responsible for troubleshooting your network.

If it persists then it's their problem (modem or line).

I've got that routine down pat. Whenever I have issues, rare as they are, first thing I do is connect the modem directly to a laptop and see if I can replicate it, and then I get on the phone with them and run any tests they want me to with it hooked up that way.
