Dell, Intel and their partners announced last week new technologies that represent major leaps forward for mobility. The companies seem to have discovered the secret to making such bold leaps: Cut Microsoft out of the deal...

Yeah, you're going to see more of this. Industry insiders have been talking about it for a while. You'll have Windows installed but if you just need to play a DVD, or quickly check a website, or your email, why waste battery power on Windows and why waste time booting up? You're going to see a lot of laptops with flash based Linux that you can boot into instantly just for basic functionality.

Doesn't HP have something similar to this for playing DVDs on laptops already?
When all else fails, replace the user.

It is already out on some laptops. I haven't seen one yet though.
