Enough with this heat already!

Post by wvjohn »

the ac's in my house can do 90=95 ok, but it's been 100 for the last 2 days. woke up this am and they were all iced up - gonna be 100 again today with really high humidity. tried to do some yard work yesterday but finally had to give it up around 11 - dangerous hot.

hehe I feel for you guys that are further north and not used to the heat. Down here in Louisiana, it's usually 100% Humidity and in the high 90s all summer. We usually have a heat index in the low 100s.. So I'm used to the high temps, I don't like them, but I'm used to them lol

Yup, St. Louis is all about. High humidity and 90 degree plus for the summer. You just can't escape the sweltering heat. Then I travel to Colorado & it's 100 degrees out & I'm totally fine with it.

It's actually been nice here in Florida. It only really got hot the last 2 weeks (before that it never topped 90). Even so it's still not as humid as it usually is this time of year here.

We had a very mild Spring and a late summer. July and August though is always brutal - especially August when we lose the breeze.

Right now I'm on my porch smoking a cigar and it's quite pleasant. Evenings are a very nice 74 degrees and so far no major mosquitoes even though the summer rains have started.

Florida has been usually well, though the humidity tends to pick up in a month or two when hurricanes start to brew.

Oh, crap. My A/C blower motor just bit the bullet at 6am. Gonna be a long couple days. Good thing we had a mini cold front.

oh lawdy,, hope u get it replaced asap.

AC is on, but con ed has reduced the voltage so it doesn't feel as cool in here as yesterday. they did the same w/2 other boroughs yesterday.

I had luck like no one's ever seen today.

I'm somewhat adept at HVAC (in otherwords, I haven't killed myself yet) & I just happened to know the specific motor I needed (which unfortunately for me is pretty rare). I also know that the local shops charge about $300 for it. Well, I wasn't about to pay that much when I have found it online for $100 shipped all day. But I didn't want to wait.

For the heck of it, I searched ebay & found 4 of them... one of which was in St. Louis with no bids @ $.99 & one day to go. I made an offer of $50 BIN to pick it up right after work (OK, had to leave work early so I could make it there before they closed, but it was worth the couple hours loss) & they bit. I got my A/C back & running by 4:30pm. House only got up to 82 degrees before I was done (not sure if that's a good thing, but I expected worse). I guess everything in the house was still holding the cool.
