I was at borders listening to sample CD's and they had the Koss TD-61's at the sample stations. i liked them so much i bought 3 pairs for $15 each (at a sale at borders). i use them at work, at home and wherever. very comfy and nice sound, i havent tried higher end headphones, but these serve their purpose well.
I've been using headphones at night/when people need to concentrate/when people are watching TV for a while now. I use some cheapie Sony MDR-CD60's. I have been looking at Sennheiser headphones for a long time and I am sorta thinking about the HD495's. I found them for $90 + $9 S/H at Musician's Friend. Has anyone found a better deal on them?

Just checked Sony's site and I think it's this one, the MDR V900: http://www.sonystyle.com/sonystyle/4784 ... fault.html
List is $200 but I've seen them for $100 - $129.
I've used them at a friend's recording studio and they're sweet. Borrowed one for a while to use on the computer.
I myself have a set of more expensive Sony Studio Monitor phones I got from a company I did some sound work for: MDR-CD2000

I've gone through a few sets of cheap headphones, the last ones being wireless. As far as I'm concerned that's the way to go. It's so nice not having that wire in the way. I'm looking at the Sennheiser RS60's now. Just trying to find them at a price I can afford.
Got a set of Grado Labs SR-60's from http://www.headphone.com/ . Working pretty good with an SBLive.

Your hearing is a valuable commodity. Cheap phones cause distortion which can give you a headache and, overtime, damage your hearing.
Comfort is also a major issue. If you're going to wear them 4 hours a day, they need to be comfortable.
I was a sound engineer for several years and had to wear them 6 hours a day at work. Cheap earphones will pinch your head or ears and give you chronic headaches and you may not even realize why.
If you'd be willing to spend $100 - $200 on a quality speaker system, you should be willing to spend that on headphones.
Not to say there aren't decent quality phones out there in th $40 - $60 range, but what kind of quality can you expect for $20? What kind of quality speakers can you buy for $20?

I Agree FP with so many factors involved in buying it's a real pain to find a good setup...
I just got those Koss ones in today and so far i'm pretty impressed , loud as F**k , pretty comfy with nice soft pleatherette padds and sounds pretty decent.Mind you anything would sound pretty good compared to the last crappy pair i was wearing
