Anyone have Verizon DSL?

Post by Err »

I'm currently on Time Warner Roadrunner. For the past 3 weeks, in the evening, between the hours of 7:30 and 10, my internet speeds crap out. My normal download at Speedtest.net to the Cincinnati server is ~7Mbs. During suck hours, it will drop to 100kbs.

Currently at 9:30 we're at:

I have called them no less than 8 times to complain. 1 technician came out and said that he needed in the house but no one was home. I rescheduled and took a day off work. I get a call (good thing my wife took it) 1/2 hour before the appointment informing us there was no reason to come over because it's a "network problem" and they are "installing more bandwidth." While I don't don't what they are saying, I'm fed up with paying a premium for something that I can even use during the hours I'm home to use it. I placed a call a few minutes ago and it got down to whether I wanted to have him re-schedule another appointment. He actually said that even though he could schedule another appointment, there's no guarantee that they won't call and cancel again. I just thanked him for his time and hung up.

I currently have phone, internet and cable through time warner. I'm thinking about switching the phone and internet to Verizon. Does anyone here have Verizon DSL and if so are they happy with it?

I've been on Verizon DSL since 2003 and never had an issue except for the newsgroup service that sucks, so I had to sign up with Giganews instead. In 2004, my modem crapped out and they sent me a new one in 2 days. Other than that, I've been very happy customer considering I never had any outages for service.

It is quite clear that Time Warner isn't providing you the service you want. If possible, see if Verizon FIOS is available in your area. It would be far better than their limited speed DSL.

I have had Verizon DSL for a few years, and yes it is slower then cable, but it never slows down and have had 0 outages and move alot of traffic and have never gotten any letters saying to stop using my unlimited internet. Hell even when the power goes out it still works. (I have a UPS that gives me about 20 minuets)

Looks like I'm not the only one having problems with roadrunner:

I checked my phone number on Verizon's site and they said it's not available. I know that's not true because they offered it to me about a year ago before I decided to bundle everything with Time Warner.

I have Verizon DSL and their VoiceWing VOIP. The VOIP was dodgy at first, but settled down. I have had the DSL from about the time it was first available. At its best, it is slower than my GF's cable, but I have had two or three short service outages in about the last 6 years. And the speed is certainly adequate for streaming video etc.

I have no problems with Road Runner, but then again, mine is not Time Warner, it is Brighthouse Networks.
