Video Card Comparison

Post by RubberDuckie »

Damn it is hard to keep up with what is what and which one is faster.

I currently have a 8600GTS with 256Megs. Right now they have the 8800GT with 512Megs on sale for $169. Would this be worth an upgrade? It would be nice to have the additional video ram for some games.

Also...whats the GT GTS & GTX ? I assume the speed is in that order?

Yes, things are getting confusing & I believe somewhat purposely, but that's beside the point.

Yes, the 8800GT is significantly faster than most things currently out there. Overclocked, they are unstoppable. The price you saw on it is very good.

The order of quality for these cards (in the 8800 series at stock speeds) is actually 256mb GT, 320mb GTS, 512mb GT, any GTX. Also, if you are wondering, the 9600GT is about the GTS range.

I'd shy away from the XFX ones..mine died and they were very slow responding.

Stick with BFG or EVGA. Both have lifetime warranties (remember to register your card).

Quick Note:
On the 8800GT, there is, or was, a bug where the fan would run at a single speed regardless of the GPU temp. This is corrected with a Bios update.
