new Dell for a friend

i just took delivery of a Vostro 200 core2duo system for a friend. just a quick note that this is a VERY nice system for the average user...heck...throw in a decent video card and you're all set. i've always been a fan of Dell, and they continue to impress me.

this was one of the ongoing deals...such a powerful system for not much $$$$.

--2.2GHz core2duo
--250GB sata
--dual optical burners (DVD+/-RW and CD-RW)
--22" LCD widescreen (sweet!)
--1 yr in-home warranty

it was ~$540 SHIPPED. damn nice deal if you ask me, considering the huge display, etc.

anyway, it's very quick (not too much de-crappifying to do on it either...they are learning...), quiet, and is a decent case.

Yeah, anymore, just need to buy a Dell, HP, or whatever your preference is for the family/friends. I still prefer to have more control over my own stuff though.

my main rig is a refurb opteron, almost identical specs except for the 8800GT

I guess I've just had bad luck with Dells.. At least their desktops.. I wouldn't buy one for anybody that I know. Unless I didn't like them that much lol.. I just built a Dual Core PC for my cousin w/17" LCD for less than $400 lol

Most of my clients have Dells at my recommendation. Very little trouble with them. I love my Dimension 9200 Quad core rig.

really...HP's are built really cheap...pick one up, check the case, they are not as solid as a Dell.

Haven't had much trouble with HP's myself, but I don't go recommending them. My real problems are usually with the OS load. I prefer to have them buy whatever & then strip the drive clean & reload the OS.

Dell by far has less bloatware than anyone else - especially if you buy from the business division (NEVER buy from the home division - tech support is better on the business side).

Toshiba and Sony are the worst for bloatware.

Dell is getting better. 5 years back though, the first boot took 10 minutes due to all of the stuff loading. Yes, I have learned the wonders of Dell Business. Much cleaner machines. Shame that there aren't as many options though.
