I'm on no one's parade - he's got my attention but so does McCain. I want some more specifics though. So far his campaign promises have been very light on specific details.
Anyway no one (and a lot of journalists have looked into it) have found anything to indicate that he setup these women to faint. You wouldn't be able to hide it long if you were paying them off. Apparently they are genuinely swooning. Hey they used to swoon for John F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra and I never understood that either.
What he's shamelessly guilty of is making sure to point out to everyone present, and the media, whenever a woman DOES faint. I wonder if he has spotters in the crowd pointing them out?
At any rate, a non-issue.
I thought the Che Guevara poster in his Texas campaign office was going to be more of a scandal but that seems to have blown over:

I'm not a fan of either Barack or Hillary. They are borh kamikaze candidates. Hillary faces the venom of the Clinton haters and Barack would demonstrate conclusively that this is not a color blind country.
One thing's for sure, he better bring a magic wand to DC to accomplish all this change. He has no experience to speak of here and very little before he got here.
But, if he creates a wave of popular support, why not ride it. Apparently, since the carping has started already, he's got our population of conservatives a little concerned....

Hilary bothers me. P. J. O'Rourke nailed it on the head by saying she's like an old time Soviet Politburo member who's worked her way up the ranks, paid the party dues, done the right things, and it's HER TURN to be president. Think Ted Kennedy in a skirt. Too much the old school politician with too many supporters she has to pay back once in office. I'm ready for a woman president but I'm not ready for HER.
I also, as an Independent, think that the worst thing that can happen to this country after 8 years of an EXTREMELY conservative administration is to elect an EXTREMELY liberal one. Extreme pendulum shifts in leadership don't serve us well. Hilary will spend far too much time trying to dismantle the work of the previous administration when there's more important work to be done.
The promise of Obama to some people (although it may certainly be mistaken) is that he is more his own man and less of a puppet of the Democratic party establishment and big business. Trouble is NO ONE gets elected president in this Country without whoring himself to special interest groups - that's just the way it is. You can promise anything you want on the campaign trail, but once you sit behind that desk in the Oval Office to you have to kiss the rings of the powerful people who helped put you there.
Obama comes off as sincere (as much as any politician can be called sincere) as does McCain. I think an Obama vs McCain race would be a very interesting one. There are Independents that could go either way (myself included) and there are people in both parties that would be willing to cross party lines for each of them. It would be an exciting election.
Obama is going to need a good and experienced running mate. I can't imagine who he'll tap at this point, but he'll need someone to offset his lack of experience. I assume that he'll also probably take on a lot of the former Clinton West Wing staff.
McCain needs a running mate that will offset concerns about his age. Some people have knocked around the idea of Condoleezza Rice which would be VERY interesting. As well as good credentials she would be attractive to Independents and moderate Republicans who feel it's time for a black or a woman to be elected to high office and might otherwise vote Democrat.

Bob, i love ya old man but your forgot your geriatric meds when you posted that. Roughly 90% of all of Obama's campaign money is from over 1 million individuals like you and me giving an avg of $100. This is fact. He also has not taken any "special interest" money at all. This is also fact.FlyingPenguin wrote:...The promise of Obama to some people (although it may certainly be mistaken) is that he is more his own man and less of a puppet of the Democratic party establishment and big business. Secondly. You mentioned earlier that his campaign trail has been light on details.

Now i know youre used to audiobooks and podcast, so dont get discourage about actually reading about the details.
Im no party nut.. far from it... but i definitely want someone one in the Oval Office that is honest, calm, and level headed enough to make the right decisions. Obama, for me, is that person. Why? Because the more smacktalk and insults and whatever they throw at him during this campaign, the more calm and assertive he is. That speaks volumes and should be taken into consideration when deciding who to vote for.
Also, the "experience" argument is nothing more than a red herring. All i have to say to that is Ronald Reagan, The Great Communicator.

Hey Trench, I like the guy. I'm waffling between him and McCain. No way I'll vote for Hilary.
However, I think it's naive to believe that anyone in his position doesn't owe some important people some favors. That's the way it works.
And believe me, since it's going to come down to decision by super delegates, there is going to be a LOT of horse trading going on at the convention.

Ron Paul! Maybe he will run as an independent, but the Republicans would be pissed as he will siphon some percentage of votes from McCain. Both my wife and I don't like Hilary, as she will bring lots of baggage with her - Bill.
I'm not really sold on Obama either, but he does handle himself very well - Mr Cool. My major concern with Ron Paul is his age. It's time for some young guy in their 40's or 50's to take the helm.

People are all about the worry of age. If a good vice president is chosen, the worry of age isn't such a big issue anymore. Besides, a doctor is more likely to have better health anyways...
When it comes to experience, what gives you more experience than doing the actual job? If the world expected everyone to have experience, no one would have any. You can prepare as much as you want, but till you are set there making the important decisions, you have no experience.
The cool and calm attitude is nice. Though I think Ron Paul would be a good overall choice compared to the entire lot, Obama would be the more likely to win and second best choice. Let us face it, you can not get elected if you want to make a difference and avoid sucking up to corporate sponsors.
I just find it sad that every election it comes down to people voting for the lesser of two evils.
