Lock icon on an IBM Thinkpad
Question as I never seen this before. One of the gals here at work brought me her laptop that she has not used in a couple of years. She wanted a fresh format. Upon booting up the laptop, all it displays is a lock icon. I tried to press the IBM access button, but it always goes to the lock icon. I'm assuming it's asking for a password. The gal does not know of any password. Is there a way around this?

if theres no password maybe just hitting enter would work? pressing f10 after turning it on should get you into the bios on most models there you could disable the password. on a further note some thinkpads have a security chip that has to be read externally if the password stored in it is forgotten. i know the t series and the a series have them for sure.

wow, that's good, but way more effort than I'm willing to expel.
