Help me out with something please.

Im in a little bit of upgrade mode.

Here is what I am runnin.

the just.

AMD Athlon64 3800+
on an ASUS m2n-3
1gb Corsair XMS2 mem
EVGA 7900gs
200gb sata wd hdd.

Im really looking at the moment to just upgrade the memory, then maybe the CPU.

I installed cod4 today and played it some and I was VERY pleased with the way it ran and looked, however Crysis was lagging.

Im confident that the Video card will do ok, but I know if I justmped from 1 gb to at least 2 I should see a little bit of improvement right?

The thing is I can get this rig up to 3gb for less than 50.00

2x512 = 1gb I have..... add 2X1gb = 2gb I can buy.

I know it usta kinda bottleneck the system to do the memory configuration diffrently. But I have been out of the PC world for a while So i dont know if this will be a performance hit or not?

Should I just match another 2X512?

In related news I logged into Newegg for the first time in a while and I was VERY surprised the amount memory is , as well as processors for that matter.

I mean you can buy 8gb for like 300.00 Thats INSAINE.

any advice would be appreciated!

Crysis will lage even on a bleeding edge quad core system with an 8800GT so forget trying to get Crysis to run well. I doesn't run well on ANYTHING right now.

At any rate ASSUMING you had the CPU (which you don't) your vid card would be the bottleneck for Crysis. Just check the benchmarks.

You have a nice "last year" rig which will play just about everything just fine with some visual tradeoffs. If COD4 runs well on your rig, then be happy.

Save your money for a either a whole new mobo/CPU/RAM combo (Core Duo2 I would recommend right now) or an 8800GT.

Yeah, ditto that. You could have 8 gigs of ram & it wouldn't barely do a thing for Crysis for you. It's all about video card & processor in that game.

I agree, save the money for a later upgrade, for what you are playing it is not going to benefit you much. No hardware upgrade is going to cure bad programming.
