I have roughly 2200sq ft. AC set at 78 (I think my AC wasnt upgraded we they added a large room on to my house) I also have a small shop that is not attached to my house with a large air compressor, table saw, and just about every other power tool known to man. I have at least 7 comuters running 24/7 in the house and sometimes that number jumps up tp 9 computers for short periods. My old house was 2800sq ft with 3 swamp coolers and its Elec bill in summer was usually aroung $195.00 the new house I am in I have recieved 2 bills so far and each bill for elec only has been with in a few cents of $250.00.

now i'm afraid to even look at my next eletric bill when it comes. with the recent "heatwave" here in Southern CA i've been using our A/C more than usual. I typically pay $100-$120/month.

Got off the phone with Edison this morning, and they said the price of oil is the main cause of the increase, since almost all of our electricity comes from oil generating facilities. They also said this cost will not come down unless price for oil also comes down. In November, we get another 6% increase again. The gal on the phone said with all the new housing and more people moving into Southern California or California in general, there are going to be increases. So I'm up $hit creek with this bill.

I was hoping that running appliances after 7pm would cost less, but she said that is not true. The cost does not change. So I guess it's time to look at solar energy as an alternative. There is no way I'm going to continue to pay these prices to Edison. I rather pay for solar @$400/month than to Edison.

During the summer I average around 350 a month. That is two 6k btu ac units, one 8kbtu unit, and a big 18k btu unit upstairs. My bill says I use 53kwh last month, and it was 350 and change. Have been trying to cut back usage. Turning off pcs etc.... Last year for the same period, I used 15%more electricity, but the bill was the same....

Did sombody say nuclear power.... oh wait no... oil power! Not that you are for or against it... its just that it would solve the problem. why waste oil to make electricity when you can use nuke to do it... you cant use nuke to run a car (yet) so use it where it can be used.
