Note about upgrading RAM

Post by GuardianAsher »

I don't know exactly how many people this applies to, but I thought I'd post this, just in case.

I recently upgraded the RAM in the system noted in my sig. I traded my gig of mixed DDR333 for a gig of matched Kingston Value RAM KVR400X64C3A, some kickass RAM. Anyway, I checked in the BIOS, out of curiosity, and it was set to automatically find the speed of the RAM. Even with the new RAM, it was still reading DDR333. I tried manually setting it to DDR400 speed, and the system wouldn't post. A quick clear of the CMOS, and the RAM was being read as DDR400, and stable as ever.

Note: When upgrading RAM to higher speed, may need to fiddle with BIOS settings. :bang

Had the same problem on my main PC. I had to force it to run at DDR400 speed.

never had a problem with changing out Ram like that, once though I had to manually set it to DDR333 as the SPD detected it as DDR400 :)
When all else fails, replace the user.
