Yes you should learn the language. And I can say that as a 2nd generation Cuban.
My parents moved here in the 40s and they already spoke decent English. Why? Because in the 40s you came to this country to make a life for yourself and you went to Humphrey Bogart movies every night to teach yourself English because you KNEW that was the only way you would make a good living here.
My parents raised my brother and I to speak nothing but English at home.
I have a few older relatives who have never learned English and it just boggles my mind. How can you live in a country for 40+ years and NOT pickup the language? It's absurd.
And I happen to think it's assinine to offer public services in Spanish. It doesn't do immigrants any favors to do that. If you don't HAVE to learn English, you don't. People are lazy. No one offers any public services to other immigrants that speak other languages and they're better off for it - they learn English and integrate faster because they have no choice.

I think it's only right. I lived in Spain for three years and made it a point to learn. I also caught myself defending native spaniards that were getting ugly looks from americans when they couldn't speak english. Then I'd have to tell them off for being so rude to the natives and that they should be honored to be allowed to live in such a beautiful country.

It's definitely english, might have a southern drawl or cajun accent to it, but it is english.
Reminds me of the few times when I went up north to a few big cities and noticed a lot of the "cool" white guys talking some kind of ebonics english, trying to sound like a black guy. They were born in the USA, but they are hard to understand. WTF is that all about.

i live up in michigan and these so call want to be brothers and there marble speech is crazy . if they want to wear there clothing so there hats are tip sideways and the brim to the side or in the back so be it . and there underwear is outside there pants or showing above the belt line .and down to there knees please do it in your own home . i sure dont need to know your buying your underwear at the big K on a blue light special . and besides bright yellow smiles with skid marks are not all that great to look at
if you want to be a sole brother why not go the rest of the way and get a can of black or brown shoe polish and rub it all over your face ,neck ,hands and arms . this way it be even harder to tell what side of the track you came from .
while your out buy a black nylon pantyhose and put it over your hair .then we white guys might be able to place bets on you as to if you were really born white or real brother
