Clear as mud... :P

"RE-ENABLE" I assume? What happens when you try to bring up the task manager?

There is no way to disable the task manager normally unless you're a user without administrative privileges or some spyware or virus has disabled it.

Need more information.

"Had" a virus is incorrect. The virus has not been properly removed if your Task Manager and Firewall are disabled.

Which virus? Makes a difference. I'd check to see if there's a free removal tool on Symantec's site. You probably have little hope of repairing the registry damage manually.

Even a repair install won't necessarily help since it keeps the old registry.

Unfortunately this sounds like a hard one to clean properly.

Some manual removal instructions at the end of this page:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/d ... hound.html

Yeah, your best bet might be a clean install. I would also recommend you make a Ghost or Acronis image of your good install once you have it setup so you can restore it if something like this ever happens again.
