dvd burner prob.

Post by Invisible Evil »

I have a sony dvd dru 710a and I cannot get it to recognise a disk. It will show in windows. But when a cd/dvd is inserted nothing.
I have updated the firmware, I have obviously checked the cables jumpers etc.
I have tried everything I can think of.

Hoping maybe someone here has an Idea?

Tried checking the cable to be sure it is in all the way, or even different cable?

I'v had a few just simply stop working. Or work when they feel up to it. These are at least far cheaper than a few years ago, but the quality shows.

i have a dru-710a and sometimes i get read/write IO errors when i try to burn a disc. it will give the same errors with different burning software. this only happens when i have a really long system uptime. rebooting the system solves this problem.

it is really picky with nero, if i burned a cd and then later try to burn a dvd, if i don't manually change the disc type in nero to dvd, then i will get errors. the disc will get stuck in there and the light will blink to infinity

if i take the disc out and reboot, then all will work fine.

playback and disc reading was sloppy on mine until i assigned a region to it.

does the disc spin up and do you hear movement of the laser?

if you have issues with the laser, it's probably easier to just replace the drive.
