how shady are new car dealers by you ?

Post by renovation »

this just happen today . ( OK we all have one in the family -not the brightest light bulb )
my brother in-law stops in to the dodge dealer by his home on his way home from work to look at new trucks . the salesman get a hold of him and about sold / lease him a new 2006 dodge ram 150 4x4 4 door , 5 speed auto ,v8 ,am/FM CD , 6 ft bed .
has a sticker price of 30 plus thousand . anyway he tell the salesman he has his car for a trade a 5 year old ford windstar fwd.
the salesman works it all out . he to turn in his windstar.
my brother in-law calls his insurances company finds that his payments will go from $60 a month to $110 a month .thats fine and dandy !
the salesman tells him with his ford windstar as trade and $3500 down he can lease the new dodge ram 150 for 27 months at payments of $278
we'll then my brother in-law calls me and decides to change the deal a bit .he offers them his ford escort .(dealers not seen this piece of junk )
then the dealer tell my brother in law never mind we don't need a trade in !
my brother in law calls me back again .
and saids he be by to take for a ride and to the dealer
.i say fine i want to stop him he cant afford a new car he trying to sell his home because he can't make the payments .right now he is bringing home like 1-2 hundred more then his bills less food :(
so how the hell would he make those car payments . :asshat

anyway all said and done i talk him out of buying the truck .
then he tells me the salesman and the sales manager .had made him a special deal were they got him a employee discount and he was to give them $500 cash on top of the down payment to seal this deal !
and what other specials they set up for him was a free oil change every 3 months or 3000 mile and inspection .for the nice price of only $8 a month rolled into the payment .
and he still had to pay for plates and title !
I'm not sure what else was done in this deal but it all seem rotten to me .

i forgot IT WAS THE LAST DAY TO GET THIS GREAT DEAL !!!!!!!
I'm just glad i got him out of sign the paper work
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help

I allways have bought used. I am mechanicly inclined so i have an advantage when doing so. So far so good. Bought a 84 capriece and put 100K on it and all told about 1000 spent over the lifetime to keep it going, bought a Bondo bucked of a 75 elcamino, kept it for 2 years then sold it for more then what i had invested. Now i have this wagon, 85k and still going and about 1000 again invested, mostly in front suspention due to the old owner driving over parking blocks. but everything else is ok on it.

I dont know if i would ever want a new car. Prehaps when im old and cant work on them any more or dont want to thats when ill break and get a new one. But untill then good old V8 chevey cars are the way to go.

That story was hard to follow. They were giving him a lease? That is nothing anywhere near to selling. The only money you need for a lease is something like a security deposite I don't know if they would apply a trade in toward monthly payments on a lease. The reason I think they wouldn't is because I wouldn't as a dealer.

This "employee deal" sounds to me like they were getting desperate to unload the truck and thought they'd get him to take it if they made it sound like he was getting a really good deal. If they did specifically say cash that seems a little seedy but I bet you were just miss understanding.

I tend to buy used...

althought I would love a new truck.. but my 2000 Dakota with 102k miles on it has been good to me..

When I bought the truck.. I did good. I think.. saw it in the paper. 15k.. online.. 13.5k.. went down.. drove it.. said I would think about it.. and left.. looked some more.. went back.. said "whats the best price you can do.." he said 11k.. I said.. WRITE IT UP.. so I saved 4k on my truck.. just by checking stuff out..

Then again.. I knew what I wanted.. 99 or newer Dakota.. V6.. Auto.. Cruise.. black if I could get it.. ended up whit a 2000 Daktoa.. V6 Auto Cruise.. Dark Blue.. hey close enough..

as far as maintenance on it.. oil.. gas.. tires.. brakes.. normal stuff.. only thing out of the ordinary.. I managed to bust the charcoal canister and had to have that replaced..

BTW.. 3rd Dakota I have had.. 89.. drove through college.. beat the hell out of.. good truck.. sold it for what I paid for it.. 99 dakota.. 4banger.. stick.. good truck.. drove it untill it went head on with the 18 wheeler.. then I have my 2000..

Just because I am an a$$hole.. doesn't mean I don't care..

hehe around here two outfits "Stingray Motors" 1 and 2 lead the pack...awful junkers with $999 down on the windshield....heard a story about 1 guy who bought a clunker there and the tranny fell out after a mile....they told him it was only guaranteed to get off the lot...lol....he eventually got his money back....sad that so many people are buried under car payments....my newest is a 96 f150 with 155k, my regular ride is 91 explorer with 145k, wife drives a 93 taurus with 100k on the new engine ;)

leases are fine for people with lots of bucks or who can write it off for business I guess
