I have a desktop and a laptop connected using two nics and a x-over cable. The problem is that when I tranfered a 10meg file from the laptop to the desktop it took about 15mins. So I figured that there was something wrong. I then tried it the other way around by transfering a 160meg folder from the desktop to the laptop and it only took a couple of minutes. So my question is what's the problem? Is it one of my nics? My network settings? Crappy x-over cable?

Is the laptops NIC slower than the other PCs (like a 10 vs 10/100 card)? Is the laptop a slower unit compared to the other PC?
I have an older P133 laptop (also networked and using a 10/100 nic) but it does nothing "fast" compared to my other PCs.

Keep in mind laptop drives are slow, and they usually have less memory than a desktop. I know my P-233 32 Mb laptop copies files slow as molasses. It's nothing to do with the network connection - it's running on 100 Mbit, it's the lappy.

Buttermaker, I know that but I use to have a 10bit/s card with the laptop, upgraded it to a 10/100 yet it's not all noticeably faster. In my case, I just need a faster laptop but I so far don't feel like spending the cash on one as I don't really need a faster laptop for my occasional use with it.
