AGN was where I first discovered forums. It's nice to keep in touch with all the same group of people. I like the "family" feel of PCA.

I have lurked over at Anandtech when it gets slow here, but there it just seems to be a non-stop flame war.

I don't know any of those people but PCA is one of the forums I keep up with and its the one I end up posting to the most. Usually I can't get to a thread in time to post anything new. Kinda like here pretty much everything has been said, but here on PCA I still feel like its not pointless. Everyone needs to play with Linux or ReactOS. I'm sure some good questions can be generated from those two.

Reg Kmet is still alive aswell :) although I don't ever see him or talk to him...

sexy pid is around, never see much tho either...

They were all on here alot, but now they have school and such, so that might be a factor.

I've been around since the AGN days too. Here is my .02: PCA has slowed down to the point that its no longer interesting. Most of the new posts are in OT, which to me indicates that lots of folks are going elsewhere for help. I don't believe that computers are suddenly less prone to problems than they were a few years ago. In fact, I would argue that there are *more* computer problems out there these days simply because of the increasing number of computer users. Don't get me wrong: there is still some good info here at PCA. I've used FP's spyware removal guide a dozen times or more since he posted it (thanks, BTW, FP). The problem is that there is nothing really *new* happening here.

Unfortunately, I think PCA is stuck in a catch-22: to get new members, you need new people to post, but to get new people to post, you need members. If people are like me, when they have a computer problem they want to post somewhere where they can get an answer quickly, like a board with lots of members. When they get an answer quickly, they come back, thus increasing membership. PCA doesn't have a lot of members compared to other boards out there, so new folks don't post questions. Also, PCA has almost zero search engine exposure, which means its difficult for those new folks to find PCA. I found AGN while googling for an answer to some computer problem. I got an answer quickly, and I came back. Really the only way for PCA to grow right now is word-of-mouth. I may be different than a lot of other folks here in that most of my friends don't have the same level of interest (or any interest for that matter) in solving their own computer problems. They ask me to do it for them. So I don't get an oppotunity to spread PCA through my friends.

I still check-in a few times a day, but there is rarely anything new/worthwhile. I spend a lot more time on GotApex these days. Why? More posts, more interesting information, more members, a political forum that someone actually posts in... lots of reasons. Mainly its because its not "the friendliest computer forum on the net." There are personalities there. There are arguements, disagreements, solutions, and answers. If I want to chit chat with a friend, I'll go to a bar after work. I go to forums to help folks, to get help, and to find out what's going on in the world of computers. PCA barely offers two of the three, and the third is rarely something I haven't already read elsewhere.

Anywho, that's just my .02. :)

PCA has kinda come to down to an old group of friends who just sit around and shoot the sh1t, and that's fine with me. I don't need a bunch of noobs polluting the boards with ATI vs Nvidia vs Intel vs AMD etc etc nonsense. Most of us are computer savvy enough that we usually don't need help. If I do, yeah I'll google it, but it's not like I have to register to another forum and become an active member there. I find a fix and I'm done with it.

Anyway, with work, kids and real life, I don't really have a lot of time to jibber jabber. I do like another gaming site that's more designed to be "chat friendly", but I'll stick around at PCA as long as it's here...

If you want to see a "dying board," look at the xlr8yourmac.com forums. They don't accept new user registrations because of "mail server problems beyond their control." 'cept their "mail server problems" have gone on for 4 years now.

There may be a small core group here, but at least it isn't walled off.
a political forum that someone actually posts in...
see, IMO the lack of this is one of the things I like about PCA. Any place I've seen with a "political" forum tends to spawn the most personal, anger-laced exchanges ever. And it rarely seems to accomplish anything other than to satisfy people who like to argue.

This site DOES have a political forum and yes, it can get heated IF one doesn't agree with another posters opinion. I usually try to steer clear of that and other political forums as IMO, there's no point in argueing online about anything anymore.
