There's no option for the cheaper one? I'd find out if the Gateway one maybe isn't OEMd by the same company as the Dell. I know either LG or Samsung make the Dell. If either make the Gateway it doesn't matter what you get.
I doubt that the gateway has a LG Siemens core and if for sure not the same. Gateway has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 the dell only 600:1
Dell has the same core as the Apple 20" Cinema and there is a difference there too, as a review by Anandtech shows. http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showd ... =2400&p=11
What I like about the gateway is that the screen can be flipped vertical which would come in handy on some Excel sheets.
It does sound that the Dell is a big seller, I should have started looking 2 weeks ago, Dell had it on sale for 599 Canadian.

i have the 20fpw whatever and i dont like it. Its sitting next to one of my old 21"crt and it small. If i have to get another LCD it will be a 21" 3:4 monitor. Wide is nice and all... but i like 4:3

One more question, would a ATI raedon 9200 even support a wide screen? I now the ATI website states that it supports 16:1 at 1920x1080, but the DELL site says the card needs to be able to display 1600x1050, which is not one of the listed resolutions for the 9200. What would it look like at 1920x1080? if I bought one of these would I have to upgrade my card?
