I live in an area with a lot of retirees. Many of them have the requisite "Support the Troops" magnetic ribbon on the back of their car.
By implication if you don't have one on your car, then you are assumed to not support the troops, or you're a commie, or an anarchist, or gay or I don't know what.
I refuse to buy a $5 (and often more) magnetic sticker that will eventually grow mildew under it, mar my paint job, and get blown off every time I go through the car wash (the local car washes all make a brisk business of re-selling used ribbons that get blown off vehicles).
I can support the troops more usefully by paying my taxes so that (in theory) the government will buy them the body armor they need. I also prefer to give my $5 or more to the VFW.
I don't need to wear a tacky plastic yellow badge of honor on my car to proclaim my support for the troops.
